Il Battente 1862 in Bolzano is an exclusive Bed & Breakfast located in Via Andreas Hofer in a listed historic building (former residence of the Teutonic Order) in the centre of Bolzano. The architectural intervention was aimed at preserving the existing construction and ornamental elements of the interiors, leaving the large spaces such as the Michelangelo hall with its magnificent 19th century coffered ceiling unchanged. Despite the spatial and functional preservation of some internal areas, a spatial and distributional re-dimensioning was necessary. The evocative atmosphere of the interior was also emphasised by a careful study of natural and artificial light, thus enhancing the existing spaces.
Works
The old herringbone wooden floors, the “Venetian terrace”, the load-bearing beams, the internal doors with mirrors, an old Art Nouveau window etc. have also been carefully restored.
Results
The combination of original period elements with fine finishes and the integration of new local styles makes for a harmonious and refined environment. The bright white and grey colour scheme is counterbalanced by furnishing and complementary elements in pastel shades and Pompeian red.
